DNA genealogy question.?

If my mitochondrial DNA sequence comes from my mother, her mother, her mother, her mother and mitochondrial Eve, and if my Y Chromosome DNA comes from my father, his father etc until Y Chromosome Adam… what about all the other ancestors I have? How does it work with DNA. Is my DNA makeup only from these two lines?

Please excuse my ignorance on this matter….

You have thousands of ancestors, who all contributed equally to your genetic makeup. At this time, however, DNA testing can only tell you about two specific lines – the one that gave you your mitochondrial DNA, and the one that gave you your Y DNA. But you’re right – there are tons of other ancestors in between, and they’re just as much a part of your heritage as your “mtDNA Eve” and your “Y-DNA Adam.” Perhaps one day there will be a test that can tell us about all of them.
