Is there such a thing as genealogy tests?

If so:

Does it work? Is it beneficial? Does it hurt? How do they test you? Where do you get the test done? How long till you get the results? Is it detrimental to your health to get tested? Is it safe?
How much does it cost? With genealogy tests, do you find out exactly who’s descendants you are, can you trace it back like all the way to before 10,000 BC?
Sources will be helpful. Reliable, easy to understand, correct, and up to date sources.

To tell your genealogy they usually will take cotton and swab your mouth to collect saliva. It will not reveal who your ancestors were, but more or less where your family originated from. It can cost quite a bit because it is not a routine thing that people do regularly versus going to the actual doctor for a check-up. It is not detrimental to your health, because it does not harm you in any way, even if you were to get it done with blood. It is definitely safe, because they can either swab your mouth with cotton or take blood samples.
