Dna Genealogy

Has anyone here tried the genealogy DNA test?

I know where my parents are from, but I also think we have mixed ancestry because of history.

If I take the test, how far will they trace my ancestors?

Do they give you names of your ancestors or let you know if you are related to someone well known?

Yes everyone has mixed ancestry. My family took the Ancestry by DNA test which tests the autosomal DNA, the company we used is ‘DNA tribes. This test is for males and females and tests your full DNA not just one line of ancestry, (as in the Y and mito tests) They send a test kit out to you and you swab the inside of your mouth and send it back for analysis, the test costs about $200 US.
The results will tell you your ethnicity’s right back to all 16 of your GG grandparents, it will tell your top DNA matches around the world. It will not tell you names of your ancestors or which country which particular ancestor was from. My family found this test very useful in assisting us in putting together our family heritage used in combination with family stories(oral History) and Official documents. We would never have known our complete and true family history without the DNA results.
Goodluck and have fun!
