Can anyone help my genealogy?
Hello, my name is Whiddon and instant messages he wants to study the history of the family. Ive searched through the web and discovered that the family started in the small town of Chagford, England. there was a man called "Sir John whyddon" who lived in the 16th century as a judge, but I have no other information. also related to the Forbes list of Scotland, Landrum, of Weatherly, and Macdonald's. information on these would be very apprecieated. personal kind regards, Wes Whiddon
HI Wes, beginning of what you know about the family. It is important to verify information of various vital records, because the name of duplicates and name changes. People used to change the spelling of names at will, at least in my family. And many-especially the French use "dit" names again in the 17th and 18 centuries, only to confuse further the family historian. Genealogy Sites Google, like Mormons and Rootsweb sites. They have lots of free stuff. Descent is a great site, have some free information, but is mostly subscription. Consult Census, land records, birth and marriage certificates, military, historical sites of STDs. Doing family history is a kind of life as a TDEE detective and can be addictive. There are lots of the genealogy of large online groups, where people are happy to do some of the search. I found a line whole family goes back 16 generations on the web from someone who did all the research. Good luck
