Who is in your family tree? What lines are your researching?

What location do most of your families come from?

I am researching these families among others: Wilkinson, Young, Keen, Howell, Walker, Conyer, Scruggs, Cade, Dempsey, Escue. There are others also but these are the closest ancestors that we have found.

Most of our families come from The UK originally, then to states like NC, SC, TN, MS, KY.

Genealogy is such a fascinating subject once you get into it. You never know what secrets you will find and maybe you will find some relatives that are well known names. I know we did.

My ancestors came from all over Europe. Once in America, they pretty much are limited to only Virginia and North Carolina. Some of their decendants that I do not descend from migrated to other states, but my direct line from the 1600s to this day remains in Virginia and North Carolina. EDIT: A few did immigrate across the ocean to New York, Pennsylvania, and Massacusettes. But even those lines eventually migrated down to Virginia and North Carolina.

Some of my family names I have been working on, some with road blocks, are Richardson, Greene, Evans, Crouse, Pruitt, Reynolds, and MANY others. I have run across many people whose lines cross mine, so I have been lucky to find many clues on the internet for my research.

I have also been trying to work on my husband’s line, but it would appear that no one else (some great-aunt or something) has never researched or posted anything of his Adkins line before, so I am having to start it from scratch with no clues from the internet that I can follow. Since his last name is Adkins, that is the line he is most interested in. As we are currently in Florida, I cannot really research his line until we move back to Virginia. His line contains Adkins, Beasley, Mitchum, Childress, Howard, Farrar, Chaney, and MANY others.

As far as who I have in my tree, I am a direct descendant of William Byrd I, and Chief Powhatan. My husband is a direct descendant of Judith Jefferson whose brother was Peter Jefferson, who was the father of Thomas Jefferson. So Thomas Jefferson is my husband’s great-uncle (I forget how many “greats” preceed that). Poet Richard Lovelace is my 12th great-uncle. There are many others, but it is just too much to put my whole family tree on here.
