Free Genealogy Family Trees

s there a totally “FREE” spot to search for family tree information?

I am trying to get to my “Roots” and I am trying to get free access to genealogy sites if there are any such sites. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

No. Generally “Free” information can be found in many places online, but you won’t find *everything* you need in one place.
.
Getting things free, means having to search around a lot more for it though…which will cost you time.
.
Here’s a start to help you out though:
.
Social Security Death Indexes

.
Census Records:
Go to your local library and get a library card.
Many libraries have access to Ancestry.com or Heritage Quest. Most have access at the library. Many have remote access. All for free.
.
Many states have their own birth/death/marriage indexes online:
Wisconsin: http://www.wisconsinhistory.org/vitalrecords/
Illinois: http://www.cyberdriveillinois.com/departments/archives/death.html
Missouri: http://www.sos.mo.gov/archives/resources/deathcertificates/
California: http://vitals.rootsweb.ancestry.com/ca/death/search.cgi
.
Forums:

.
Trees:

.
And there are many, many, more. You can find city/county/state genealogy societies. Obituary indexes at local libraries. Ship records on-line in several places. Etc…
.
A lot of the sources you need, will depend on the locations your ancestors lived in and the ethnicity of your ancestors.
.
Most of the resources out there that will be the most useful, are the ones you will need to provide more specific location information to find.
.
Hope this helps.
