Has anyone ever heard of this strange Norwegian reference?

Whenever someone in my mom’s family growing up would develop a stye (eyelid inflammation), my grandpa would always say that was Norwegian heritage at work. He would say the same about a hairy back too, actually.

Is this just a joke, or has anyone ever heard anything else? Nothing important really, but I thought if anyone would know if this comment was/is commonplace, it would be the Y! Answers community.

I’ve worked hard to piece together my family genealogy, and there is no direct Norwegian that I’ve found. I wonder though if there’s a reason why he would have said it? Or like I said, maybe he was just being funny and picking on Norwegians for whatever reason.

… like saying something’s a “red herring”…it’s unexplainable, off the wall, out of the ordinary?
