What are the naming practices of baptism given?

Researching genealogy and family history of the Philippines for many years, I think that most children baptized the same day they are assigned the same name. For example, an April day children are baptized with the proper name Benedict / Benita. Some of this may be due to being a special day holy feast day, but not always. Any explanation of the practice name?

Pope John Paul II beatified Benito de Jesus, 29 April 1990. Perhaps you see the results of this event. While some Roman Catholics, Anglicans and Orthodox Christians take the name given to a saint for whom their parents have a special affinity, some may take, the name of the saint whose feast day in which born. Furthermore, upon confirmation, speaking English and German and Polish Catholics and some Anglicans may add their names with the name of a saint, or a Christian hero. Ideally, this saint should be someone with whom they identify, but can also choose a Christian virtue, for example, "Grace".
