I am looking for a genealogy program/software for more than one family, anyone know of any?

My family and I want to create a family tree, but not just for our family. We want to do more of a collection of all information from the people in our hometown and how everyone is related to each other. We tried to do it through Excel but it became very complicated so we are searching for a program that will help us with this. All the software programs that I have seen on the internet have been based on just one family and we need one for multiple families. Any suggestions would be really helpful, thanks!

I’m currenlty working on my family tree, and went to the Latter Days Saints Web page and downloaded their free My Heritage program. Very easy format. I started with one family and currently have 2019 persons and 551 families.

For example, I typed in my great uncle Christy’s name and received a green symbol and it showed me other people’s tree’s that he was in and was able to find out information about his wife and met a cousin that I never knew about.
