Anybody with a last name of Nottingham doing genealogy?

Looking in specific for info on James O. Nottingham, son of William Nottingham in early 1800′s.
William was from New York. James was born in Cleveland, Ohio.
I haven’t bridged the Atlantic yet, but with a name like “Nottingham”, I think my ancestors would be from Nottingham and if not specifically there, then somewhere in the UK at least!

Where did William Nottingham live, I do know of a family with the surname Nottingham but they live in Lincolnshire. I have just checked on www.ancestry.co.uk there is quite a lot of men by the same name which surprised me. If you have anymore information at all could you edit your question please.
