How does one get a list of ship owners from the 1780s – 1850s?
The Cuevas family in Mississippi and Lousiana owned ships and I am curious as to their disposition and the owners names for my genealogy project.
Boats over 5 gross tons and ships are generally documented vessels. A list of US documented vessels is contained in the “Ship Registery”. The “Ship Registery” will list the ship’s by name, documentation number, owners, type of service the ship was registered for, and so on. I have seen older copies of the “Ship Registery” at the library and used book stores.
