Where can I find org charts of conglomerates and what companies they own?
I’ve heard that a few mutinational corporations control most industries. I.e. Pfizer owns tons of pharmaceuticals, Viacom owns a lot of media outlets, Philip Morris owns a lot of grocery brands, etc. Where can I find a comprehensive listings of who owns what?
(At http://www.cjr.org/resources/ I found listings of what corporations own what media outlets. But I haven’t found other org charts).
Secondarily – if there is not one huge map of these companies, how can we make one? I tried using FamilySearch software to map company ownership (it’s meant for genealogy but I needed a tree chart system) but it wanted me to specify the sex of each company (!). So is there any software out there for free that would help us to map all these companies and what fields they’re in?
The organizations to whom you refer are publicly traded companies. Their financial information would probably be posted on their website. That would be a good place to begin.
As for creating an organizational chart, Microsoft Excel. If you have excel include the “Drawing” toolbar which will appear toward the bottom near the tabs. The icon you want is in the middle of the bar which has the appearance of a circile compose of three circles and three rounded arrows.
