How to trace my family tree?

I’ve tried to trace it online, however, all I’ve found is that my family originates from Suffolk, England. Well, I already knew that, so, is there a way to trace my tree even further back than that? Since my surname only goes back a few hundred years it’s quite difficult. Would it require some sort of genealogy/DNA test?

A DNA test would not help you with specific ancestors. DNA is only used to support your paper genealogy by confirming your deep ancestry.
