I am interested in tracing my family tree, but …?

… it's really frustrating b / c they do not have much information to work. I wonder if any of the websites that offer genealogy services (for example. ancestry.com) are reliable and worth the money. I tried rootsweb.com, which is free, but do not get very far. I really just want to know specifically where in Ireland my family came. Any information would be appreciated!

Documentation! Always start with yourself and working backwards one generation at a time. Get documents as birth certificates, marriage and death. For some in their lines can be military application records or social security. Talk to older family members, but do not press a bit harder if reluctant to give information. Many older people raised in a time that is not considered polite to 'talk' about the family. With fresh leadership on issues that are not based directly on the family, but what is a period of time was, as is likely to open wider. Use the LDS family history center in your area. They have access to all types of Govt. records microfilm as a census. Good luck with your search.
