Heritage Books Genealogy
if the book of genesis is metaphorical, then why does it include such detailed and examined genealogies?
The genealogies in that book, and many of the other ones, are so scrupulous that people that are believed to be real in the Bible, such as Jesus, used this record as factual support of their heritage.
Genesis, along with the other books that make up the Torah, has different authors with different purposes. Some of them are history writers that meant to show the condition of Israel and the history of Israel at any give point. Some of them were more concerned with particular atributes of God. There are part of Genesis that are called the Introduction chapters that are understood by many Christians, Jews, and Muslims that read it to be a story written to tell a certain characteristic of God rather than explaining actual history so much. Look at the bigger picture sometimes.
For example, there are two creation stories. One invovles Adam and Eve, and the other one does not. It’s hard to see for some because they have been told for years is a meshing together of these two stories. The first is showing that God an make something out of nothing and make order from chaos. It was written in a time of chaos — the exile. The second one shows the metaphor of marriage and that sins DO have consequences – we are taken out of the perfect communion with God.
Yes, some of Genesis is history, but with several different authors, not all of it is that.
