What is your definition of *Family*?

Family 2

Family 3
Definition: Those who descend from one common progenitor; a tribe, clan, or race; kindred; house; as, the human family; the family of Abraham; the father of a family.
Family 4
Definition: Course of descent; genealogy; line of ancestors; lineage.

Family 5
Definition: Honorable descent; noble or respectable stock; as, a man of family.

Family 6
Definition: A group of kindred or closely related individuals; as, a family of languages; a family of States; the chlorine family.

CAN A BUNCH OF PEOPLE (NOT RELATED) THAT LIVE IN THE SAME HOUSE CLAIM THEY ARE A FAMILY?

The husband and wife with their dependent children form the family. This is not an arbitrary arrangement, but the only reasonable accommodation with our biology in a species with sexual reproduction and slow-maturing young.

Children only issue from the mating union of one man and one woman. Given that children need roughly two decades to learn enough to function effectively as adults, they need a stable, nurturant, educating home led by both biological parents to maximize their opportunities for success. Ergo, the family.

No, a bunch of unrelated people living in the same house is not a family. It might be a gang, a commune, an orgiastic group, or some other arrangement, but it is certainly not a family.

Cheers,
Bruce
