My Genealogy Tree
How to get a well designed genealogy tree?
I am using MacFamilyTree on a Mac. I also take a deep look at all others products on the markets and online.
Most of them tout out some ugly technical genealogy tree but none are designed oriented.
I want something nice, easy to read and that looks like a… tree. Not an exel sheet or a web design from the 80′s.
So right now I am thinking to make my own by hands with InDesign. But since it involve more than 250 individuals, I would to know if there is some other alternatives i missed.
Thank you !
I understand the purpose of the genealogy software and how it is a tool and not a designer software.
But still, I would like to show a “nice” and easy to undestand tree to my peers and being abble to update it easily (and share the .ged file with others).
It’s just a matter of “theme” and how the “branchs” spray on the design.
I am very happy with MFT otherwise.
Genealogy charts are not designed for visual goals. They are designed to present info for 2 standardized purposes… to show a person’s DIRECT ancestry; and family group sheets to show a husband/wife and their children.
The direct intent of this, is relaying specific information, AND doing it in a way that is commonly accepted and understood by other researchers. Every time I have ever worked with persons who “design” their own… they wind up having to explain how they did this, instead of concentrating on what records were used to prove who Grandma’s parents were.
If your main purpose is making a pretty chart, of course, you have that option. Just take a moment to understand why the genealogy programs are less concerned with this than you are. The prettiest charts have nothing to do with quality research.
