What is genealogy?

The study of family pedigrees. The descent of a person or family from an ancestor, generation by generation.
This forum is a catch-all for so many things unrelated it’s no longer pleasant to visit. Also, many questions can simply be asked on google such as surname origin,family crests and heraldry. Ditto software reviews. It would be so welcomed if folks who really need specific help not found on the internet had the space to ask questions of seasoned genealogists without having to wade through the muck first. Just my opinion but I am willing to bet it’s shared by others…l

UK answer.
I get quite flustered by the nature of some of the questions asked on this forum, it really does seem like there is no sort of filter system that sorts out the bonafide genealogy questions from the rubbish that does get posted here. I really like the sort of question where you have to dig deep to come up with the answer for someone. I haven’t been on here much lately as the questions being asked were beginning to bore me.
