That face, that face, that fabulous face

You hear a lot about artists and their "muses," but we know that a Frenchman has to go beyond of his own backyard to find inspiration for one of the greatest monuments in the United States.
No. .. not Mount Rushmore! (While these are some fabulous faces). We are talking about the Statue of Liberty.

Before arriving at "home" to the United States, the colossal head of the Statue of Liberty on display in the Paris Exhibition of 1878. Naturally! After all, was created by a Frenchman and inspired by French women.

Frederic Auguste Bartholdi, French sculptor who created the Virgen del Puerto, modeled his creation, the favorite of the two women in his life – his wife and mother!
Ms. Bartholdi was "the body "- which probably represents wrapped in a blanket, holding her hairbrush in the air. But it was mom Bartholdi – Charlotte – who put a face on the Liberty.

Talk about having a "big head!" Lady Liberty skull Space can accommodate up to 40 visitors at a time! If he were alive, Bartholdi probably have a "head big, too … with the start value of autographs the famous sculptor.

Your signature on a letter talking about his mother and the Statue of Liberty sold more than $ 3,000.

That freedom … and cash registers … Ring!

Grand Tour of Gustav

When most women need a little support, the head of the "unspeakable" Department of finding something in your size.

But in 1886, was a lady who was so well equipped with a call that went through France for a man to "engineer" a solution.

Mrs.? Why the Statue of Freedom, of course!

Created by Frederic Auguste Bartholdi and composed of more than 8 million pounds of copper panels, the Statue of Liberty was too weak to sustain itself. (Ooops!) Bartholdi was forced to resort to an engineer to create some kind of internal support.

The "miracle man" that saved the day did so reluctantly, as he had other things on his mind … a "tour" (French "tower") to commemorate the centennial of independence from France.
However, it created a skeleton of iron and reassembled statue sculpture in the United States. What I went to Paris to completion of his great "tour" and the historical Paris that still bears his name …

Come on. You know what you mean. Say it with us. Gustav is the Eiffel tower. Or just the Eiffel Tower to your friends!

Gustav job as an engineer did not end with the announcement Eiffel Tower from the Statue of Liberty.
Designed and built many structures. He was certainly ahead of its time. It was the first person to propose digging a tunnel under the English Channel and the creation of a Paris subway system.

No one took him up on the offer, as the figure who decided to scrap the idea and just eat a lot of French fries and French toast.
